T h e weak interactions of leptons are defined by a few principles: lepton conservation, two-component neutrinos and the use of the 1 + y 5 components of electrons and muons. Baryons, pions and kaons interact with leptons through a current whose parity, isotopic spin and strangeness structure is to be determined by experiments on nuclear beta decay, muon capture and leptonic decay of hyperons and mesons. The weak interactions of baryons, pions and kaons among themselves are controlled by a Hamiltonian, whose quantum numbers are likewise to be determined from the pionic decays of kaons and hyperons.

K~-p interactions at 2.24 BeV/c were studied in several exposures of the Brookhavan National Laboratory 20-in. hydrogen bubble chamber at the alternating-gradient synchrotron. We give an account of all aspects of the experiment, including: experimental procedures, scanning and measuring techniques, data-reduction methods, and experimental results and their consistency with the current theories of strong and weak inter actions. The experimental results are grouped as follows: meson and baryon resonance spectroscopy; other two-body and three-body reactions; the S hyperon; and total cross sections. For completeness, we include information published elsewhere but add important details not previously given. In addition, we report a considerable range of new results.

Phys. Rev. 130, 1568. 6 It is known that T. D. Lee and C. N. Yang [Phys. Rev. 108, 1645 (1957)] and J. Cronin and O. Overseth (Ref. 22) have an inconsistency in the definition of 0; their definitions of & from the decay amplitudes and the condition imposed by time-reversal invariance should be read with an opposite sign.The production of cascade hyperons by incident K~ on hydrogen has been studied from threshold (1.05 BeV/c) to 1.7 BeV/c. A sample of 1004 E~ and 206 S° was obtained. Production cross sections rise over this momentum range, reaching about 150 fxb for E~£ + production and about 100 /*b each for &PK 0 and STTK. Production of the E*(1530) near threshold is observed, and the assignment I=\ for this resonance is confirmed. The S decay analysis yields weak evidence for /g = |. For J% -\, our decay-parameter results are Ae~f>)/(E~" ->Ax"), was found to be 0.5%.
