Lepton masses and mixing from modular S4 symmetry

Abstract: We study models of lepton masses and mixing based on broken modular invariance. We consider invariance under the finite modular group Γ 4 S 4 and focus on the minimal scenario where the expectation value of the modulus is the only source of symmetry breaking, such that no flavons need to be introduced. After constructing a basis for the lowest weight modular forms, we build two minimal models, one of which successfully accommodates charged lepton masses and neutrino oscillation data, while predicting the value… Show more

“…These features of Yukawa couplings enable us to construct flavor models without flavons. The lepton models with S 3 [8], A 4 [6,[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15], S 4 [16][17][18], and A 5 [19,20] have been studied. Moreover, quark model [21], combination of lepton and quark models [22], and GUT model [23,24] have also been studied.…”
