Leperditicopid ostracodes from Ordovician rocks of Kentucky and nearby states and characteristic features of the order Leperditicopida

Abstract: SYSTEM OF MEASUREMENT UNITS The investigations underlying this series of reports were made over a period of years, and distances and Stratigraphic measurements appear fairly uniformly in English units. Measurements of fossil specimens, on the other hand, follow the longstanding convention of appearing in metric units. Because of the dates of the investigations and the amount of resulting data, the English measurements have been retained. Con versions to metric units may be made by using the following conversio… Show more

“…Like other leperditiids (BERDAN 1984;SIVETER 1984), sinoleperditiines could tolerate considerable variations in salinity and energy. BERDAN (1984) added that the animals with smooth shells might have burrowed just below the surface of the mud on intertidal flats when the tide went out, in the manner of modern intertidal arthropods. During the Devonian in South China, the leperditiid association often occurs together with the palaeocopid association (mixed leperditiid and palaeocopid association), which represents generally the same environment as the palaeocopid association.…”

The size, shape ofthe carapace and the external, presumed vascular features of OrdovicianDevonian leperditicope ostracodes (Berdan 1984;Wang 1994) also closely resemble those of Anabarochilina. This could be a case of evolutionary convergence or taken to support the notion that there may be phylogenetic links between certain bradoriids, the phyllocarids and the leperditicopes (see Vannier & Abe 1995).…”
