Lentil

Abstract

Lentils are annual pulse legume plants and their cultivation by humans is as old as the agriculture itself. Although they are very important as a high protein source for the people of various countries in the world and they are vulnerable to a range of biotic and abiotic stresses, they received very little research attention for the improvement of nutritional and growth characteristics. This chapter summarizes various genetic transformation studies and plant regeneration methods used for the propagation and genetic improvement of this important crop plant.
