Length-weight relationships of five Triplophysa species from the northwest of China

Abstract: Summary Length‐weight relationships were estimated for five Triplophysa species from the northwest China. A total of 1,598 specimens were collected using set gillnets (mesh size 1.5 cm) and ground bamboo cages in May 2012, and August 2014. This study presents the first references on LWRs for Triplophysa minuta, T. siluroides, and T. tenuis, and two new maximum length records for T. yarkandensis and T. strauchii. Statistical length–weight relationships for all five species were highly significant (p < .001), wi… Show more

“…The values of parameter b remained within the expected range of 2.5-3.5 (Froese, 2006). The b values of the three fish species calculated in this study were different from those of other authors (Chen et al, 2017;Zhang et al, 2018). The differences in the b values may be due to differences in the number of samples, the effects of regional or seasonal differences, or just that the length ranges of the captured samples were different (Pan et al, 2014).…”

“…The Shule River is 540 kilometers long and has serves a drainage area of 20197 square kilometers. However, due to the construction of water conservation projects along the Shule River, the natural habitats of these fishes have been destroyed to various extents, and fishery resources have declined sharply (Chen et al, 2017;Du et al, 2021;Lou et al, 2020;Zhang et al, 2018). In this study, physical characteristics of three indigenous fish species in the Shule River were obtained and we provide the first published reference on length-weight relationships for three native fishes of the Shule River.…”

“…In this study some differences in b values is calculated same with Chen et al (). In this study values of a for these four species ( Triplophysa naziri , Triplophysa hazaraensis , Triplophysa kashmirensis and Triplophysa brahui ) were within the limits reported for elongated fishes (Froese, ).…”

“…There were some variations in b values estimated in the present study for some species in comparison with the earlier estimates (Karna et al., ; Kulbicki, Guillemot, & Amand, ; Kulbicki, Mou Tham, Thollot, & Wantiez, ; Letourneur, Kulbicki, & Labrosse, ; Mohamad Kasim, Ameer Hamsa, Rajapackiam, & Balasubramanian, ; Torres, ). The differences in b values can be occurred due to several factors such as sample size, length range covered, type of habitat, ontogenetic development, season, population, sex, gonad maturity, diet, and health (Chen et al., ; Roul et al., ; Tesch, ). Out of five species analysed herein, only one species ( Tylosurus acus melanotus ) have not estimated LWRs till today (Froese & Pauly, ).…”
