Length-Weight Relationship and Condition Factor of Layang Fish (Decapterus russelli) Landed at Tenda Fish Landing Base, Gorontalo

Abstract: The study aims to figure out growth pattern and condition factor of the flying fish (Decapterus russelli) landed at the Fish Landing Base Tenda, Hulonthalangi District, Gorontalo City. Sampling of 360 layang fish was carried out randomly based on a simple random sampling method for three months. Determination of fish sex was conducted visually by dissecting samples and observing the gonads. The study showed that the layang fish (D. russelli) landed in PPI Tenda had a positive allometric growth pattern with con… Show more

“…It warns that combining male and female data in calculating and estimating fish exploitation status leads to a decision endangering aquatic resource sustainability. Furthermore, many studies on stock assessment aspects that require data on the sex distinguishing of fish are still conducted by dissecting the samples (Lawadjo et al, 2021). Hence, strengthening the sexual dimorphism research of S. leptolepis fish, for instance, differences in meristic (Sari, 2018) and morphometric characters (Cabuga et al, 2019), may provide information easing the similar study application technically.…”

“…Bone River that empties into Gorontalo Bay (Kadim et al 2018) serves as the migration path of amphidromous fish (Olii et al 2017;Sahami et al 2019;Pasisingi et al 2020a;Pasisingi et al 2020b;Sahami and Habibie 2020). The bay connected with Tomini Bay is also inhabited by diverse pelagic fishes Lawadjo et al 2021;) and marine mammals (Mustika et al 2021). The bay also becomes a center of economic activity in Gorontalo so that the waters potentially receive waste that affects the water quality and its biodiversity (Kadim et al 2019;.…”

“…The lack of scientific data on Layang fish resources in Tomini Bay is a challenge in determining and formulating the proper management direction by considering Layang fish D. russelli as the target fish caught by fishers in Indonesia as in Tomini Bay (Lawadjo et al, 2021), Malacca Strait (Alnanda et al, 2020), Makassar Strait (Cahyono and Mardani, 2020) and Ternate (Tangke, 2020). D. russelli is also one of four species commonly caught by fishers from Ambon Island waters (Pattikawa et al, 2018).…”
