“…Furthermore, our result is consistent with that of Guessouss et al [34] in the Nordic provinces of Morocco, the results of which show that the female sex is mostly affected by CL with a rate of 56%. At the level of Chichaoua, the sex ratio was observed at the order of 0.8 [35]. For VL, the distribution was marked by a sex ratio of 0.8 for females in the Province of Sefrou.…”

“…Nevertheless, it may be an underestimation related to the diagnostic methods used notably if patient use substances as personal treatment. In fact; CLt was recognized endemic in various provinces of Marrakech‐Safi region (Zougaghi et al., 2011), while, CLm is endemic in arid region situated in the eastern and south‐eastern of Morocco (Ait Kbaich et al., 2017). Thus, the unusual existence of L. major in this area can be explained by the presence of vector, ( P. papatasi ), characterized by its wide geographical distribution in these arid regions (Karmaoui, 2020); moreover, Merions shawi grandis is the main reservoir of L. major in Morocco (Kholoud et al., 2018).…”

“…The province of Youssoufia remains a potential focus of leishmaniasis due to ecological and demographic factors within this province. Indeed, its semi‐arid climate favours the presence of sand fly vectors (High Planning Commission, 2018); its proximity to the main foci of CL, especially Chichaoua province (Zougaghi et al., 2011); and finally its rural character and the poverty of the local population, considered as a risk factor (Amane et al., 2022). However, in this province, local and regional authorities have not reported any autochthonous cases, according to these authorities in the prelimenary survey, only six imported cases of CL have been recorded in the last 5 years (2017–2021), distributed in particular in three localities (Jnane bouih, Lakhoualqa, El Gantour).…”
