“…Preoperative diagnosis was generally difficult, in keeping with the findings of other authors [6,68]. Specifically, distinguishing the tumor from the ovaries [82,85] was cited as a major challenge on diagnostic imaging. Unusual locations of the leiomyomata, such as at the upper pole of the kidney [67] or in close proximity to paraaortic lymph nodes [68], often raised suspicion of malignancy especially in the presence of otherwise normal pelvic structures.…”

“…Of these, 60 were excluded: 31 for pathology other than leiomyoma [5,8 -36], 9 for nonretroperitoneal leiomyomata [37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45], 9 for intravenous or intracardiac leiomyomatosis [46 -55], 5 for leiomyomata of known gastrointestinal or renal origin [56 -60], 5 for containing review material only [61][62][63][64][65] and 1 for restriction to the biochemical analysis of smooth muscle tumors [66], leaving 17 publications for review [2,6,7,[67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80]. In addition, 7 articles were found [3,4,[81][82][83][84][85] through the bibliographies of other articles providing a total of 24 articles.…”

“…Intra-round-ligament fibroid may grow at any point along the track of the ligament, from the uterine horns to the entry opening of the inguinal canal, in the inguinal canal, or after exiting the inguinal canal in the labia majora or mons pubis mimicking therefore other mass lesions in the region such as adenopathy or inguinal hernias [1][2][3][4]. Unlike other leiomyomas, intra-ligamentous tumors can grow in already hysterectomised patients [5]. In this paper, we report a case of round ligament fibroid that was successfully managed using a minimal invasive route.…”

“…Diagnoses before an operation can be difficult, missing with ovary as the most common challenge (14,15). In many cases, the exact location of the mass cannot be determined, even by MRI.…”
