The objective of this scoping review is to map, collate and understand the extentand type of peer-reviewed literature on the nexus of consumer policy and environmental sustainability.Sustainable consumption has gained global attention, particularly in thecontext of environmental agendas like the European Green Deal. While consumer policy plays a pivotal role in the envisioned green transition, concerns have been raised about its efficacy and alignment with sustainability goals. Some argue that there is a need for a comprehensive re-evaluation of consumer policy. However, the research on the nexus of consumer policy and environmental sustainability is fragmented. This is also the case for sustainable consumption as a policy area as a plethora of policy instruments relate to consumption in different ways, and they can be adopted at different levels. This planned scoping review covers the English language peer-reviewed literature on the role of consumer policy, and the consumer policy toolbox, in the greentransition. Studies with a stated focus on consumer policy and environmental issues, published from the year 1987 onwards in English, will be included. The review will be conducted following the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. To cover a broad array of multidisciplinary research, published in both peer-reviewed journals and books, 12 databases will be searched. The databases covered are broad multidisciplinary databases such as Web of Science and Scopus and more targeted databases such as PsycINFO and databases hosted by EBSCOhost. Data will be extracted and analyzed using a standardized charting table.
