Background: Traditional massage seems to be safe but not entirely risk free, though serious adverse events are very rare. This report is aimed at illustrating a rare but fatal presentation of massive pulmonary embolism caused by leg massage and also to encourage both massage providers and pregnant women to be aware of undetected or subtle deep vein thrombosis, which could be a life threatening condition as a consequence of leg massage. Case presentation: A 25-year-old primigravid Thai woman underwent massage at a traditional massage shop at 25th week of gestation. Shortly after leg and foot massage, she had a sudden onset of dyspnea, followed by consciousness alteration, brief spastic-like convulsion, became unconscious and suffered a cardiac arrest. Basic life support (BLS) at the event scene as well as during transfer and advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) at the hospital were provided, resulting in successful resuscitation but persistent coma. Bedside echocardiography showed poor contractility of the dilated right ventricle, and pulmonary embolism was suspected. CT angiography (CTA) revealed multiple concentric intraluminal filling defects within the right and left pulmonary arteries, indicating massive pulmonary embolism. The fetus died in utero and spontaneous labor and vaginal delivery occurred. Conclusion: Leg massage in patients with deep vein thrombosis can dislodge thrombi, leading to life threatening pulmonary embolism, and should be contraindicated. Since pregnant women are at a higher risk of undetected or subtle thromboembolism, traditional massage in pregnant women should be contraindicated unless they are proven to have no such risk.

Internal jugular vein (IJV) thrombosis is associated with several etiologies. Trauma is a rarely recorded causative factor. This case presents one such example of how trauma causes IJV thrombosis. A middle-aged woman presented to the general medicine outpatient department with complaints of pain in the base of the left side of the neck and swelling of the left arm and neck for six days. The symptoms had occurred following a trivial trauma to the left side of the neck due to pressure from a 25 L water can. Before the patient came to our hospital, she went to a local clinic, where magnetic resonance imaging was done and showed findings suspicious of thrombosis in her left IJV with extension into adjacent veins. A venous Doppler confirmed the findings. The patient was then treated conservatively with low-molecular-weight heparin, muscle relaxants, and antibiotics. Although uncommon, vascular injuries should also be thought of following minor trauma and not just musculoskeletal events. This case report proposes that IJV thrombosis can also occur without the classical etiological factors.

The massage is the first therapy that every child comes in contact after its born, every mammal after its born. We see on massage from medical science on its effect by many illnesses on cellular level. The aim of our research is to make one rewire for therapy effect of massage by some illnesses, and prove it, by medical assessment tools. Material and method:We have made one investigation on medical data bases, to resolve all our knowledge and compare with other researchers world way for therapy effect of massage. Results:We have represented our research in three parts: effect of aromatherapy, application of massage by some illnesses and side effects from massage.Discussion: Many researchers proved the therapy effect of some traditional form of massage and medical massage too. It is accept from Association of Physical medicine doctors of Europe, like a therapy modality. Conclusion:Massage has many positive health effects, but medical staff and massage practioners must be careful and to expect some complications specially in area of osteoporotic bones and vessels.
