Left ventricular twist is impaired in acromegaly: Insights from the three‐dimensional speckle tracking echocardiographic MAGYAR‐Path Study

Abstract: Acromegaly is associated with impaired LV rotation and twist as assessed by 3-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography. LV-RBR is a frequent phenomenon in acromegaly.

“…This phenomenon was first reported in noncompaction cardiomyopathy (NCCM) . Our group has reported this phenomenon in a number of pathological states such as cardiac amyloidosis, acromegaly and congenital heart diseases . It is not known whether this is a sign of a yet subclinical pathology or undiagnosed disease; however, to the best of our knowledge, this phenomenon has not been previously reported in the healthy population.…”

“…This towel‐wringing‐like movement is responsible for ~40% of systolic pumping function 20 . LV twist is impaired is several pathologic conditions 22 and its absence (LV‐RBR) can be detected in large percent of patients with noncompaction cardiomyopathy 16 or cardiac amyloidosis 23 …”

“…12 3DSTE study, 10% of healthy subjects showed LV-RBR, which ratio seems to be in the similar range as in HES patients (2 out of 12). 15 The most experience is with noncompaction cardiomyopathy, 16 where ratio of LV-RBR is between 50% and 100%, but higher ratio could be demonstrated in cardiac amyloidosis (60%), 17 dilated/nonischemic (50%) 18 and hypertensive cardiomyopathies (32%), 19 and acromegaly (20%), 20 as well.…”
