Left atrial appendage closure with Amplatzer cardiac plug for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: Initial Asia‐Pacific experience

Abstract: Our preliminary data suggested LAA closure with ACP is safe, feasible with encouraging 1-yr clinical outcomes. Further large-scaled trials are needed to confirm the efficacy of this device.

“…37,40,42,64,67 Two alternative concepts to achieve LAA occlusion are obstruction of the LAA orifice with an occlusion device 41,45,48,68 or percutaneous suture ligation using an endocardial/epicardial approach. 47 Currently, three entirely catheter-based devices are commercially used for mechanical orifice obstruction, the Watchman and WaveCrest devices and the ACP.…”

“…Nowadays, oral anticoagulation still remains the state-of-the-art therapy for patients with AF. Since the first percutaneous LAA occlusion (LAAO) in 2002 [1] many studies have shown the safety and efficacy of this therapy using different closure devices [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Percutaneous LAAO is a valuable therapeutic option for selected high-risk patients with AF and contraindications for oral anticoagulation therapy.…”

“…[28][29][30][31][32][33] Most of the patients enrolled in these studies had intolerance or contraindications to oral anticoagulation and were treated with aspirin and clopidogrel during the postprocedural period. The most frequent safety events appear to be pericardial effusions and device embolization occurring at similar rates as the WATCHMAN experience.…”
