“…The observed maps of FIDs in Figure 2b for neon and in Figure 3b for helium show that the FWHM of the FID intensity profile across the step edge atom of a W(112) facet is about 280 pm in the former case and about 304 pm in the latter case, respectively. These results are almost the same as the value of 280 pm FWHM obtained from the helium field ionization intensity profile measurement for a single tungsten atom on a W(100) plane at 63 K (Witt & Müller, 1986b) by means of a sensitive video system combined with a channel electron multiplier array (Heinz & Müller, 1982). Note here that the value of 280 pm FWHM obtained from the above-mentioned video system is the result after the treatment of deconvolution process for the thermal broadening effect on a spot size blurring, and the measurement temperature is lower than the present study.…”
