“…The temporal expression in all phases of dentinogenesis and different spatial expression mainly observed in the membrane glycogonjugates founded of UEA-I ligands are in agreement with literature results (Nakai et al;Nakamura & Ozawa;Lemus et al, 1997;Dan et al, 1997;Jowett et al, 1992). Our results suggest that L-fucose expression in dentinogenesis is similar between human and rodents models and we hipotyze that this monosaccharide was intensily required on dentinogenesis.…”

“…The stratum intermedium is an epithelial cell layer located between the inner enamel epithelium and stellate reticulum, but its function remains largely unknown. It has been reported that the stratum intermedium produces Shh (11) and participates in the differentiation of ameloblasts (18). Our data further revealed that signaling via IGF-1/IGF-1R is present there and it may affect the differentiation of the adjacent ameloblast layer.…”

“…Thus, it appears that the cells of SI are engaged in calcium regulation by the enzyme actions of Ca 2ϩ -ATPase and Na ϩ -K ϩ -ATPase, and play an indirect role in mineral transport to the growing enamel, coupled with the secretory ameloblasts. Based on findings with lectin cytochemistry of rat incisor enamel organ, Nakamura and Ozawa (1990) suggested that Ca ions may be trapped on the plasma membranes of these cells by highly negatively charged glycocalyx and that these cells play a role in ion translocation from the capillary to the secretory ameloblasts. CO-reactive mitochondria in the cells of SI are probably related to oxidative phosphorylation required for mineral transport.…”
