Leather

Abstract: Leather is composed of 65–70% water, 30–35% dry substance, and <1% ash. The dry substance is largely made up of the fibrous proteins collagen, keratin, elastin, and reticulin. The chemical composition and microstructure of leather are discussed, as well as manufacturing and processing techniques such as chrome tanning, vegetable tanning, dyeing, and drying.
