Abstract:earning styles/preferences have been an area of discussion in conferences as well as journals. Literature is rich with learning theories, different learning/cognitive styles given by various researchers. All of these elicit one common fact that individuals learn differently. Since individuals learn differently, would it be a valid point that teachers should teach different kinds of learners differently. This is what is known as Matching Hypothesis. Viewpoints of various theoreticians for matching hypothesis have been objectively discussed. Pedagogical implications for administering learning style inventories in educational institutions have been cited here. Primary research conducted by various researchers has been cited in this paper. Apart from this, with specific emphasis to NLP that suggests three learning sub-modalities-VAK (visual, auditory and kinesthetic), recommendations have been made for these three types of learners for optimum learning.

Background: In medical college medical curriculum needs to be evaluated on a regular basis because students perception about the subjects should be known to the teachers. Assessment of medical students regarding the understanding of the subjects is useful in modifying and can be made two-way learning, more appealing, and enjoyable too. Aims and Objectives: Considering the above-known facts different learning strategies in physiology were evaluated among 500 medical students of consecutively 3 academic years of 3 rd semester (II/I) students who had finished their physiology curriculum. Materials and Methods: This was carried out by providing an appropriate and well-structured questionnaire with 10 items containing different learning tools of physiology. They were asked to choose more than one option which aids in their understanding. Results: Frequency was expressed in percentage. A total of 500 students participated in the study. The most preferred learning tool was clinical as 81% students found practical hours of clinical examination interesting while 57% agreed for regular hematology practicals, 54% felt small group discussion interesting. On the other hand, 48% favored lectures and tutorials both. Preference of problem-based learning by 46% and 29% identified group activities in the form of seminars as useful. Spots by some 26%, and lecture demonstration was selected by 20%. Charts with models were least preferred learning tool by 12%. Conclusion: Basically, the study was helpful for students in appreciating different learning methods.

Background: Student's learning style preference is an important consideration for effective and high quality teaching and learning process. Different teaching approaches may not suit students' preferences, hence, producing a gap between learning and delivery instructions. The aim of this study was to assess the learning style preferences among the first year pharmacy students of public sector university of Malaysia. Methods: A prospective cross sectional study was conducted during non-lecture hour using validated VAK (visual, aural, and kinaesthetic) questionnaire. After a brief description about the study, the questionnaire was distributed to investigate student's learning mode preferences. Results: A total of 118 responses were received, giving a response rate of 100%. Unimodal learning style was preferred by majority of the students (94.07%). Specifically, visual approach of learning was commonly reported by the participants (53.4%), followed by kinaesthetic mode (22.88%) and auditory mode (17.8%) respectively. Bimodal and tri-modal learning approach was preferred by 5.08% and 0.85% patients respectively. Gender, residency, number of siblings and parent's income did not influence learning preferences of pharmacy students indicating no significance association between the factors and learning styles of the students. Conclusion: The study concluded that teaching styles should be adapted to accommodate the preferences of learning styles among pharmacy students to improve the quality of the teaching and learning experiences of pharmacy students.
