Learning orientation, integration, and supply chain risk management in Chinese manufacturing firms

Abstract: Supply chain risk management (SCRM) has become a differentiating competency as networks of interdependent organisations strive to manage and prevent supply chain disruptions. However, research examining cultural and behavioural factors that may improve SCRM practice is still scarce. Drawing on the knowledge-based view of the firm and using survey data from the Chinese electronics industry, this study examines the roles of learning orientation (LO) and supply chain integration (SCI) as complementary parts of a … Show more

“…For example, Camuffo et al (2007) applied agency theory to study risk sharing between buyers and first-tier suppliers and develop hypotheses. Similarly, Ellinger et al (2015) used the Knowledge Based View (KBV) to develop a conceptual framework and hypotheses to understand that learning orientation is a cultural factor that favourably influences SCRM. Further, survey data was used to test the hypotheses in the conceptual framework.…”

“…On the one hand, Baker and Sinkula (1999) related the scope of the LO as a capacity that improves the company's offer, since it maximizes the correct interpretation of the links that conform the value chain (customers, distribution channels, competitors, etc.) to provide solutions according to the orientation of the current market (Ellinger et al, 2015;Iyer et al, 2019). For Baba (2015), LO is a collective capacity derived from the cognitive and experiential process and involves the acquisition, exchange and use of knowledge.…”

“…They suggest that understanding the cultural difference and adopting cultural adaptation are crucial to mitigate the related risks. More recently, Ellinger et al (2015) highlight that research examining cultural and behavioural factors that may improve SCRM practice is still scarce.…”
