The emergence of social networking and online learning groups, the widespread use of smartphones, and a growing understanding of the potential for computer games to revolutionize learning are recent developments. Other significant breakthroughs include improvements in Intelligent Tutoring Systems, the free Open Educational Resources movement, and the development of immersive environments that let users interact with virtual worlds and enhance their perception of the physical world through technology.
