Assessing Greek pre-service primary teachers’ scientific literacy

In a modern yet demanding society, scientific literacy (SL) is an essential skill that enables the individual to explain, understand and discuss issues related to science, health, and the environment. The purpose of this research study is to validate the Scientific Literacy Assessment (SLA) tool in the Greek language and investigate the level of SL of 362 Greek pre-service primary school teachers. Reliability and validity were examined using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, and a statistical analysis was performed to verify the factor structure of the two components of SLA. The results revealed that the level of demonstrated knowledge (SLA-D1) was moderate while motivational beliefs about learning science were satisfactory (SLA-MB). In terms of demographic factors such as gender, high school course specialization and undergraduate year, the results demonstrated an effect on SLA scores. Recommendations for further research in primary teacher preparation programs are presented.

The peace of students in school in reality is not easy to realize. Indications that connotes not being peaceful at school are increasingly obvious. Various conflicts, ranging from the simplest form, namely verbal behavior, to more serious violence with a physical dimension in the form of brawls, persecution, and even murder have been committed by some students in schools. The purpose of this paper is to explain the study of the need for a conflict resolution learning model with cartoon expression card media in developing students' problem-solving skills in elementary school. This research method consists of several steps, namely research design, subject research, data collection instruments and data analysis. Based on the results of research and discussions that have been carried out, data conclusions were obtained about students' initial ability to resolve conflicts that often occur in grade 5 at the elementary school level, namely from 4 schools categorized in the group of students' initial ability to resolve conflicts still need to be improved because the achievement is relatively low. Data were produced on the needs analysis study of conflict learning models with children's conflict cartoon expression card media based on questionnaires and the results of interviews stated that there was no specific model or strategy in order to learn about conflicts and how to handle them. In the end, it is stated by teachers and students that a special model based on conflict handling is needed. Through this model, it is hoped that teachers have alternatives that can be used as part of the learning process itself. Even students stated that such a model is needed to provide understanding to each student so as not to easily conflict.

Development of STEM Based-Integrated Electrochemistry Enrichment Book: An Analysis Review

The research aimed to develop a STEM-based chemistry enrichment book on electrochemistry and find out the students' responses to the book. This development process uses a mixed method Cresswell version; qualitative approach for the development stage using text analysis and quantitative method for data statistics using data analysis. An enrichment book indicator is generated, which has been integrated with each STEM component to become a reference for developing an enrichment book. Then, a STEM-based chemical enrichment book was made on electrochemical materials. It was reviewed by expert validation of media materials: four chemistry education lecturers and one chemistry teacher. The average percentage from enrichment book validation results for each aspect of eligibility were: content, presentation, language, and graphics. Each has a value of 98.5%, 87.5%, 100%, and 100%. The final enrichment book product was tested on 37 students at one of the senior high schools in Indonesia. The student's response test results were 81.34%, including the proper category in a very good predicate. The product of this study result was proven to have a positive response that can be used in chemistry learning. It can be used as teaching material for schools and also can support STEM education in Indonesia.
