Learning in an Ambient Intelligent Environment. Towards Modelling Learners through Stereotypes

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Ambient learning is an area that combines mobile learning, situated learning and context awareness, where the learners wish to learn anytime, anywhere and anyhow. The context of ambient learners is dynamic and they tend to engage in short bursts of learning, where the learning content must be adapted to the dynamic nature of their learning needs. One of the challenges of supporting such learners is the development of learner models that could be used to define the learning resources at any point in t… Show more

“…Also, developed a three-dimensional stereotype approach (1st dimension: knowledge level, 2nd dimension: type of programming errors, 3rd dimension: previous knowledge) for a web-based educational application that teaches the programming language Pascal (Web_Tutor_Pas), in order to adapt its responses to each individual student dynamically. Moreover, Kofod-Petersen et al (2008) adopted the stereotyping approach for modeling the learners of their intelligent learning environment. CLT (Durrani & Durrani, 2010), which is a C++ tutor, is another adaptive tutoring system that uses stereotypes in order to provide an individualized learning environment.…”
