Learning and serial effects on verbal memory in mild cognitive impairment

Abstract: The objective of this study was to examine different patterns of learning and episodic memory in 3 mild cognitive impairment (MCI) groups and a control group by administering the California Verbal Learning Test (CVLT) and using serial position effect as a principal variable. The study sample included 3 groups of patients with MCI (n = 90) divided into single-domain amnestic, multiple-domain amnestic, and multiple-domain nonamnestic MCI and a group of healthy controls (n = 60). We compared the performance of ea… Show more

“…We assumed, in accordance with Brambati et al . (2009) and Campos-Magdaleno, Díaz-Bóveda, Juncos-Rabadán, Facal, & Pereiro (2016), that the change from single-domain to multiple-domain corresponds to cognitive worsening, in which multi-domain MCI represents the most severely impaired of the MCI subtypes.…”

“…This article discusses the design and initial validation of a digital game aimed to early detect MCI and AD in senior adults. For this, the game addresses the most relevant marker of early cognitive impairment, that is, episodic memory [6]- [12]. To do this, we followed an adaptation of the DS Research Methodology in IS [43], which covers the whole process to obtain a working artifact both from an ICT and a medical perspective.…”

“…Episodic memory is a cognitive system that allows human beings to recall past experiences [47]. The evaluation of episodic memory is paramount to MCI or AD detection, as it is the most reliable indicator of the likelihood of conversion of MCI into AD [29,48,49,50]. Episodix (cf.…”
