Leaf metabolomic data of eight sunflower lines and their sixteen hybrids under water deficit

Abstract: This article describes how metabolomic data were produced on sunflower plants subjected to water deficit. Twenty-four sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) genotypes were selected to represent genetic diversity within cultivated sunflower and included both inbred lines and their hybrids. Drought stress was applied at the vegetative stage to plants cultivated in pots using the high-throughput phenotyping facility Heliaphen. Here, we provide untargeted and targeted metabolomic data of sunflower leaves. These composit… Show more

“…Most of the tentatively annotated metabolites belonged to four biochemical classes, namely terpenes, flavonoids, polyacetylenes and cinnamic acids (Table 1 ). These findings were in line with our previous research on sunflower, and specifically with the works focusing on drought stress [ 16 , 18 ]. However, the detection of polyacetylenes was unique to this study.…”

“…After the partial removal of redundancy due to isotopes and adducts, the final metabolome dataset consisted of 2557 LC-MS features (Table S 01 ) characterized by a retention time (RT) and a mass over charge ratio ( m/z) (Table S 02 ). A total of 21 features already had an annotation based on previous works (Table S 02 ) [ 16 , 18 , 27 ].…”

“…Researchers are apparently increasingly focusing on the impact of global climate change, especially high temperatures and drought. Authors (Berton at al., 2021) provided untargeted and targeted metabolomic data of sunflower leaves under water deficit. They constitute a valuable resource for the community to study the adaptation of crops to drought and the metabolic bases of heterosis.…”
