“…This should enable to better represent the covariations of V cmax and leaf chlorophyll content, and hence the impact of C ab on the SIF signal. Indeed, leaf chlorophyll content is related to leaf nitrogen content (Gholizadeh et al, ; Yoder & Pettigrew‐Crosby, ) with a dependence that may however vary depending on the season, species, and allocation of nitrogen for different plant processes (Croft et al, ; Ghimire et al, ; Kalacska et al, ). In parallel, a more direct relationship between C ab and V cmax shall be implemented to represent the dynamic of leaf chlorophyll content (Croft et al, ; Houborg et al, ; Migliavacca et al, ).…”

“…The Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCO) enzyme, which relates to V max and leaf-level carbon fixation, correlates to leaf nitrogen (N) content [11]. Since leaf N also consists of chlorophyll, plant chlorophyll is strongly correlated to leaf N [12][13][14] including that for winter wheat [15].LAI and chlorophyll content are important factors determining crop reflectance [11] and can, therefore, be estimated from optical Earth observation satellite sensors, which provide synoptic and repetitive coverages over large areas [16]. The retrieval of these variables from Earth observation multispectral data has extensively been carried out empirically through the statistical relationship between spectral vegetation indices (VI), typically the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index [17], to ground measurements.…”

“…The central tendency of collected data of each variable was measured by mean and median, while the variability was measured using variance, standard deviation, coefficient of variation (CV), and range. Evaluation of CV of the data was based on 3 categories, namely: low (less than 15%), medium (15-35%), and high (>35%) (Gholizadeh et al, 2017). Correlation between variables were tested by 2 tail Pearson Correlation Test with error probability less than 5% (P<0.05).…”
