ResumenLos procesos de comunicación conscientes en el deporte mejoran el aprendizaje de los jugadores, en este sentido la labor del entrenador en baloncesto es primordial. El presente estudio indaga en los elementos de comunicación referidos a disposición espacial, agrupamiento en la información y período de la temporada. Estudiamos a tres entrenadores de baloncesto en diferentes categorías (ACB, LEB y EBA). Los instrumentos y la técnica utilizada son cámaras de vídeo y observaciones sistemáticas con triangulación de observadores. Los resultados indicaron que el equipo de superior categoría (ACB) era el que más información transmitía (36,5%; n=1.052). En general, el uso del espacio medio (45,2%), la transmisión de información a nivel colectivo (67,2%) y las instrucciones en la semana previa a competiciones eliminatorias (en torno al 35%) ofrecían los valores más altos. La categoría con menor nivel (EBA) indicó la necesidad de un mayor aprendizaje técnico-táctico, repercutiendo en un mayor uso del espacio cercano por parte del técnico; todos emplean mayoritariamente la información grupal como modo de comunicación, siendo el espacio medio el más utilizado.Palabras clave: elementos comunicativos, proxemia, entrenador, baloncesto. AbstractThe processes of conscious communication in sport improve players´ learning; thus, the job of the basketball coach is paramount. The present study investigates the communication elements referred to as space arrangements, grouping information, and period of the season. We studied three basketball coaches in different categories (ACB, LEB and EBA). The instruments and the technique used were video cameras and systematic observations by means of triangulation. The results indicated that the team in the highest category (ACB) was the one that transmitted the most information (36.5%; n=1052). In general, the use of half the space (45.2%), the transmission of information to the group (67.2%), and instructions in the week before eliminatory competitions (around 35%) offered the highest values. The lowest-level category (EBA) indicated the need for greater technical and tactical learning, which resulted in a greater use of space near the coach; all employed mostly group information as the mode of communication, with half the space being the most used.

Abstract:The purpose of the present study was to examine the preferred leadership profile and motivation of young soccer players. The sample was composed of 99 young male soccer players between (12 to 15 yrs). To evaluate the motivational level of the players, the Sports Motivation Scale (SMS) was used. Leadership was assessed through the Leadership Scale for Sport. Normality of data was assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The comparison between different age groups was analyzed through the Mann-Whitney U test. To verify the relationship between leadership style and motivation, the Spearman correlation coeficient was applied (P < 0.05). The results showed that the preference for leadership profile and coaching is given by non-autocratic coaches, who focus on training instruction and help in social support, keeping players more motivated for sports practice. Intrinsic motivation was shown to be related to instruction training style (r = 0.21), social support style (r = 0.20), and autocratic leadership style (r = -0.20). In general, the present study seems to contribute to the knowledge of the coach-athlete relationship and how to keep athletes motivated, evidencing the best style of coaching.

This study analyses the relation between sports success and athletes' perception of coaches' leadership, athletes' satisfaction with coaches' leadership, coach-athlete compatibility, and goal achievement. Sixty-six athletes who qualified for the final Division I play-offs of a professional volleyball championship were grouped into winning (n = 21) and nonwinning teams (n = 45). Leadership styles, satisfaction with leadership, coach-athlete compatibility, and goal achievement were evaluated. Analysis of variance with repeated-measures revealed that the winning teams evaluated their coaches' vision, inspiration, technical instruction, positive feedback, and active management more positively than non-winning teams and that their satisfaction with coaches' strategies increased over time. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) indicated that the winning teams' perceived achievement of personal and team goals was greater than that of the non-winning teams. Sports success was associated with athletes' positive evaluation of coaches' leadership, satisfaction with coaches' strategy, and higher perceived goal attainment.
