Leader selection in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks: a Proactive Approach

Abstract: With the rapid advancement in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, there are growing interests in related fields to leverage V2V communications for different applications. A robust leader selection algorithm is required in a number of V2V communications related applications. In this paper, a distributed leader selection algorithm is introduced for vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) over unreliable V2V communications. The algorithm is simple, light-weighted and tightly integrated with SAE 2735 protocol in veh… Show more

“…Vehicle-To-Vehicle (V2V) Many researchers worked on the technology of transfer from vehicle to vehicle (V2V) [18,19,20] to improve the flow of vehicles at intersections, where the results of the experiment showed the effectiveness of this technology, as this technology dispenses the infrastructure for each intersection to be replaced by one of the vehicles in the intersection called leader Which is chosen based on a specific algorithm in turn to manage other vehicles in intersection. See figure 10.…”

“…Different consensus algorithms exist for electing an entity as a coordinator and those are generally termed as coordinator election algorithms. The majority of the existing election algorithms focus on improving the performance measures in particular communication cost [4][5][6]. As the entities in the system are networked and use message passing technique for communication and execution of distributed election algorithm, electing a reliable entity as a coordinator is a challenge.…”
