Show more

“…These certainly correspond to structural repetitions of a single and close cherty interval yielding Llandovery graptolites of the Coronograptus From a palaeogeographical point of view, the Silurian rocks of the GTMZ display a moderate "Mediterranean character" (i.e. relatively minor thickness for the complete Silurian-Lower Devonian sequence, frequent lydites, and presence of limestone in the upper part) similar to that of the Moncorvo and Truchas successions of the CIZ (Sarmiento et al 1999;Gutiérrez-Marco et al 2001). This supports the parautochthonous nature formerly assigned to the "Schistose Domain".…”

“…3; e.g., Helbing and Tiepolo, 2005;Martínez Catalán et al 1992;Gutiérrez-Marco 2001;Dias da Silva et al 2010. The deposition of low-energy condensed facies following fine-grained and pelitic sediments characterizes a new subsidence cycle in the continental platform by the latest Ordovician-Silurian transition (Gutiérrez-Marco et al 1998;Sarmiento et al 1998;Piçarra et al 2006). The UP and CIZ both feature voluminous bimodal magmatism during the lower Paleozoic (Figs.…”
