Laying the groundwork at the AGS: Recent results from experiment E895

Abstract: The E895 Collaboration at the Brookhaven AGS has performed a systematic investigation of Au+Au collisions at 2-8 AGeV, using a large-acceptance Time Projection Chamber. In addition to extensive measurements of particle flow, spectra, two-particle interferometry, and strangeness production, we have performed novel hybrid analyses, including azimuthally-sensitive pion HBT, extraction of the six-dimensional pion phasespace density, and a first measurement of the Lambda-proton correlation function.Comment: Present… Show more

“…Pionic phase space densities have been estimated for 130A GeV collisions at RHIC (114), at the top SPS energies, and for several AGS energies (213). Figure 14 shows results for all three regions.…”

“…Recently, there appeared data on pΛ correlation functions from Au + Au experiments E985 at AGS [88], STAR at RHIC [31] and P b + P b experiment NA49 at SPS CERN [29]. As the Coulomb FSI is absent in pΛ system, one avoids here the problem of its sensitivity to the r * -tail.…”

“…Published data exist for the transverse mass dependences of correlation radii 114 , and the azimuthal dependences in non-central collisions for the three lower energies 113 . Results on average phase-space density as a function of K ⊥ and beam energy were shown at the Quark Matter 2001 conference 116 . All published data are at mid-rapidity.…”

“…Data: The average phase-space density was studied first by the E877 experiment for Au+Au collisions at the AGS 109,110 in the projectile fragmentation region where it was found to decrease with increasing rapidity. The E895 collaboration measured the average phase-space density at mid-rapidity at 2, 4, 6, and 8 AGeV and observed its increase with the collision energy 116 (Fig. 11).…”
