“…The lines of the additional phase can be distinguished well from the lines of Cu 2 (OH) 3 (CH 3 COO)·H 2 O because of their broad profiles corresponding to the lower crystallinity of the phase. Positions of the additional diffraction lines could indicate some species intercalated between the Cu 2 (OH) 3 (CH 3 COO)·H 2 O layers, similarly as reported by Demel et al [18]. However, the elemental and the thermal analysis coupled with the mass spectroscopy as well as FTIR spectroscopy provided similar results for both the phase pure Cu 2 (OH) 3 (CH 3 COO)·H 2 O and the mixed-phase product.…”

“…This additional phase was generated from tighter packing of dodecyl sulfate ions in the interlayer space. 7 On the other hand, the pattern of ZHN-250-DS appears as clearly as the mono-phase of intercalated DS ion. The difference between the two patterns can be indirect evidence that the charge density of ZHN, prepared by radiolysis, is different from that of the conventionally prepared ZHN.…”

“…The XRD patterns of two samples show a series of h00 reflections, indicating extensive order along the layer stacking direction. 7,20,21 The basal spacings of ZHN-250-DS (a) and ZHN-chem-DS (b), calculated from the first h00 reflection at around 2.8º in two-theta, are approximately 31.2 Å and 31.0 Å, respectively. From these results, we could primarily confirm that the nitrate ions were exchanged by dodecyl sulfate ions.…”

“…In this chapter, the most comment LDH synthesis methods, and the application of LDH and its derivatives such as MMO for photocatalysis have been reviewed. As the exfoliation technique of LDH nanosheets has been more and more mature, 9,19,208 together with the unusual structural features, that is, ultimate two-dimensional anisotropy and the novel physical and chemical properties due to an extremely small thickness of around 1 nm, it is anticipated that ultrathin and even transparent LDH single nanosheet will find its way in photocatalysis. Furthermore, these nanosheets are useful as a building block for the fabrication of a wide variety of functional nanostructured materials, such as the layer-by-layer assembly of nanosheets with appropriately charged counterparts through a wet process has advancing application in the near future.…”
