Layered composites composed of multi-walled carbon nanotubes/manganese dioxide/carbon fiber cloth for microwave absorption in the X-band

Abstract: Multi-layered composites of MWCNTs/MnO2/epoxy show high microwave absorption ability due to interface reflection and synergetic effects of MWCNTs and MnO2.

“…FESEM, TEM, and conductivity measurements indicated the formation of interconnected conducting networks in MnO 2 /RGO-1.0 to account for its highest SE R . It may be noted that high conductivity and impedance mismatching of MnO 2 /RGO-1.0 account for the low SE R loss and more reflection of EM waves from the surface of the shielding materials. , However, the exact idea of the shielding mechanism of electromagnetic shielding of δ-MnO 2 and its RGO composites could be inferred based on the frequency variation (2–8 GHz) of SE T as displayed in Figure c.…”

“…Room temperature complex permittivity (ε r ) and complex permeability (μ r ) of the samples were carried out in the frequency range 2–8 GHz using the following relationships The real permittivity (ε′) and real permeability (μ′) terms in this correspond to the material abilities to store electric and magnetic energy, whereas the imaginary permittivity (ε″) and imaginary permeability (μ″) refer to the dissipation of electric and magnetic energy within the material resulting from conduction, resonance, and relaxation mechanisms, respectively. , …”

“…By measuring the complex dielectric constant, the area density of the short carbon fiber layer is controlled, which can absorb electromagnetic waves in the target frequency band. Carbon fiber cloth made by a textile process is widely used in the aerospace, industry, construction, medical and other fields with the requirement of wave absorption [14]. Due to the overlap between carbon fibers in the carbon fiber cloth, the formed three dimensional continuous conductive network gives carbon fiber cloth an excellent shielding performance, and a weak absorbing property [15].…”

“…Along with the fast and fierce evolution of civil network technology and military detection technology, the protection or absorption technology of electromagnetic (EM) wave radiation is becoming of increasing significance in this day and age [1]. In order to address this issue, microwave absorbing materials (MAMs) are increasingly being studied for their isolating and absorbing the EM wave from the surroundings.…”
