Law of nonlinear flow in saturated clays and radial consolidation

Abstract: It was derived that micro-scale amount level of average pore radius of clay changed from 0.01 to 0.1 micron by an equivalent concept of flow in porous media. There is good agreement between the derived results and test ones. Results of experiments show that flow in micro-scale pore of saturated clays follows law of nonlinear flow. Theoretical analyses demonstrate that an interaction of solid-liquid interfaces varies inversely with permeability or porous radius. The interaction is an important reason why nonlin… Show more

“…It is noted in work [8] that, since the thickness of pores in clay soils varies from 0.01 to 0.1 μm, the interaction of "solid parts-liquid" significantly affects the flow in these pores. The result was the assumption, put forward and substantiated, about the nonlinearity of the filtration law in saturated clay soils.…”

“…然而在低渗透岩土介质中, 渗流规律不再符合达 西定律. Deng等人 [2] 、Cui等人 [3] 研究发现在岩土中的 饱和、非饱和渗流运动过程偏离了达西定律. 郝斐等 人 [4] , 时宇等人 [5] 进一步研究了以出现启动水力梯度 为主要特征的非线性渗流现象.…”

“…33 He 33 also proposed an NDF rule in segmentation function form and found that the calculated results matched better with the field observations by applying the flow relations to consolidation. The kinds of literature [34][35][36][37][38] have introduced this flow rule into the analysis of 1D consolidation, or sand-drained ground consolidation, and concluded that Hansbo's flow rule has a delaying effect on consolidation. However, Hansbo's flow rule is expressed by a piecewise function, and the parameters are complicated to determine.…”
