Lattice Boltzmann modeling of shallow water flows over discontinuous beds

Abstract: SUMMARYNumerical modeling of shallow water flows over discontinuous beds is presented. The flows are described with the shallow water equations and the equations are solved using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) with single relaxation time (Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook‐LBM (BGK‐LBM)) and the multiple relaxation time (MRT‐LBM). The weighted centered scheme for force term together with the bed height for a bed slope is described to improve simulation of flows over discontinuous bed. Furthermore, the resistance stress… Show more

“…Zhu et al [26] noted that the comprehensive effect of the fluid drag force, pressure gradient force, virtual mass force, and gravity on particles should be taken into consideration. Peng et al used the lattice Boltzmann method to successfully simulate the shallow water flows and river bed evolution [27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34] as well as two-phase flows [35,36].…”

“…The LBM has found a wide range of applications in a variety of fields involving shallow water equations. The LBM has been successfully adopted to study shallow water equations of wind-driven ocean circulation [34], intrusion of salt wedges in estuarine zones [35], continuous change in bed elevation [36], wetting-drying problems [37], two immiscible shallow layers of different density [38], and multilayer shallow water equations [39].…”
