Lateral stability control based on the roll moment distribution using a semiactive suspension

Abstract: Abstract.A semi-active suspension design based on the traditional method of skyhook control is not capable of effectively controlling the attitude of the vehicle. However, an innovative approach called decoupling skyhook control allows the attitude of the vehicle body and its vibration characteristics to be effectively controlled. In this paper, a new decoupling skyhook controller for semi-active suspension is presented. Vehicle body motions in the three directions of vertical, pitch, and roll have been adopte… Show more

“…The vehicle was operated on a class B road at a speed of 80 km/h [31]. The way to produce a random road roughness profile is to let the white noise pass a shaping filter [32]. The step-steering input maneuver was performed at 5 s, and the front-wheel steering angle reached a final value of δ = 1…”

“…With two different transmission ratios of 2 and 4, the open-circuit voltages of the power generator for 2 Hz, 5 mm excitations are shown in Figure 10. The theoretical results are calculated from equation (2) and the measured velocities; then, they are compared with the experimental results. As shown in the figures, the experimental results of the generated voltages match the theoretical analyses well.…”

“…Semi-active suspensions can provide a controllable vibration isolation performance while requiring little energy. 1,2 Magnetorheological (MR) fluids have attracted considerable interest with respect to semi-active motorcycle control. This is because MR fluids can be utilized to provide controllable properties for mechanical devices.…”

“…Authors in [6], [7] have presented several centralized LPV /H ∞ controllers, where AFS, DYC and AS are used to control the decoupled lateral and vertical vehicle dynamics. From the other side, authors in [8] and [9], have used the roll angle and its angular velocity to control the vehicle load transfer that leads to rollover avoidance. Moreover, authors deduced lateral stability improvement as a consequence of roll control.…”
