Lateral response analysis of root piles in multilayered soils based on transfer matrix method

Abstract

The response mechanism of root pile under horizontal load is still unclear. The present analytical model is established based on matrix transfer method to research the stress and deformation characteristics of root piles under horizontal loads, in which the influences of the root squeezing effect, pile-soil friction effect are taken into account, and the effective length of the root is studied in semi-infinite space soil. The deformation and mechanical response of the root pile were obtained by writing the response program on the MATLAB platform. The feasibility and reliability of the theoretical method were verified by experimental cases of root pile, even in the stage of large deformation. In a parametric study based on this numerical case, the existence of roots greatly improves the horizontal bearing capacity of root piles. The study shows that the horizontal bearing capacity of root piles increases along with the increase of the installation position of roots and the increase of the elastic modulus of soil. The lateral bearing capacity of root piles does not increase with the increase of root length, there should be one range value of length of roots.
