“…Prior to 2005 it was appreciated that Triassic ornithischians were scarce in the fossil record – nearly all ornithischian occurrences were based upon isolated teeth, with eight putative ornithischian genera ( Revueltosaurus , Krzyzanowskisaurus , Galtonia , Pekinosaurus , Tecovasaurus , Crosbysaurus , Protecovasaurus , Lucianosaurus ) named on the basis of isolated, but distinctive, teeth from the Late Triassic of North America (Hunt, 1989; Padian, 1990; Hunt & Lucas, 1994; Heckert, 2002, 2004, 2005) and similar teeth described from Europe and North Africa (e.g. Tatarinov, 1985; Galton, 1986; Godefroit & Cuny, 1997; Godefroit et al. , 1998; Cuny et al.…”

“…Fraser, Walkden & Stewart (1985) claimed the first pre-Rhaetic therian mammal, Kuehneotherium, from the Emborough fissure, but Whiteside & Marshall (1985) suggested that the Kuehneotherium should be used to date the fissure rather than vice versa. For example, a Kuehneotheriid has been found in the Rhaetian beds of Luxembourg (Godefroit et al 1998) and another possible occurrence in the Rhaetian of Boisset is noted by Cuny (1995). To show that the Emborough deposit is 'pre-Rhaetic', the basal Rhaetic would have to actually cap the fissure.…”

“…Standard protocol for etched surfaces requires direct acid-etching of the enameloid surface, without embedding or sectioning them. This is usually performed on the crown surface with different durations of acid ex-posure to penetrate the enameloid layer to variable depths (Reif, 1973(Reif, , 1977(Reif, , 1978(Reif, , 1979Duffin, 1980;Duffin & Ward, 1993;Cuny, 1998;Godefroit et al, 1998;Cuny & Benton, 1999;Cuny et al, 2001;Guinot & Cappetta, 2011). Thus, surface etchings provide information on the distribution of enameloid structures over the whole crown, at a given depth within the enameloid cap.…”
