Late Miocene volcanic activity in the České středohoří Mountains (Ohře/Eger Graben, northern Bohemia)

Abstract: Late Miocene volcanic activity in the České středohoří Mountains (Ohře/Eger Graben, northern Bohemia)First occurrences of superficial bodies of Late Miocene volcanic activity were found in the western part of the České středohoří Volcanic Complex (CSVC) and extended our knowledge of its volcanostratigraphy. Their K-Ar ages (9.59, 9.61 and 11.36 Ma) correspond to the age of alkaline basaltic rocks of the youngest known Intrusive Suite of this area. Unlike the previously known subvolcanic bodies of this system, … Show more

“…Their upper boundary, marked by the 6050 ms -1 isovelocity, rises upward at km 230. Here, the S01 velocity image reveals an upwelling under the Doupovské hory and České středohoří volcanic complexes -see, for instance, Ulrych et al (1999) with Cajz et al (2009). The local maxima of depicted 6000 and 5900 ms -1 isovelocities (Fig.…”

“…Based on a new volcanological model and geochemical investigation, Cajz et al (1999) described basalt occurrences in the lower and uppermost formations of the volcanosedimentary complex. Data on petrography, development, and age of basaltic rocks were obtained by Cajz et al (2009).…”

“…Most of the magmatism was concentrated along the Eger Rift, which represents the easternmost branch of the European Cenozoic Rift System (e.g., Dèzes et al 2004;Rajchl et al 2008). Apart from the main volcanic complexes (see e.g., Ulrych et al 2002;Rapprich and Holub 2008;Cajz et al 2009;Holub et al 2010;Skála et al 2014;Ackerman et al 2015), several volcanic fields were formed also on the shoulders of the rift (Awdankiewicz 2005;Rapprich et al 2007;Büchner and Tietz 2012;Valenta et al 2014;Büchner et al 2015;Petronis et al 2015;Tietz and Büchner 2015;Awdankiewicz et al 2016;Ulrych et al 2016;Haase et al 2017). Our study focused on the Zebín Volcano, located in the Jičín Volcanic Field (Rapprich et al, 2007;Petronis et al 2015; Fig.…”
