However, in the Patagonian Channel region, fossils of Nothofagus pollen (e.g., Bennett, Haberle, & Lumley, ; Fesq‐Martin, Friedmann, Peters, Behrmann, & Kilian, ; Haberle & Bennett, ; Lumley & Switsur, ; Montade et al., ; Villagrán, ) and of flightless beetles (Ashworth & Markgraf, ; Ashworth, Markgraf, & Villagrán, ) have been recovered even from the lowermost strata.
