“…Despite a non-uniform dispersion of TiB 2 within the Al matrix, slight grain refinement was achieved in the samples containing 4 wt% TiB 2 . Wen et al [115] also reported the same trend in their studies on 2024Al/TiB 2 composites produced via DED. In another study, Li et al [103] evaluated the effect of nano-TiB 2 on the microstructural evolution of the AlSi10Mg alloy produced via the LPBF process.…”

“…AMCs reinforced by nanomaterials, the presence of nanoscale reinforcements results in the formation of ultrafine grains. Wen et al [115] used nano-TiB 2 particles to strengthen 2024Al alloy produced via the DED process. In their 2024Al-3 wt% TiB 2 nanocomposites, the high tensile strength of 284 MPa and excellent ductility of 18.7% were achieved, which were much higher than those of 2024Al alloys produced by casting.…”

“…The nucleation of new grains at the solidification frontier generally required numerous nucleation sites and an energetically favorable condition. Usually, the undercooling at solidification front was able to provide an energetically favorable condition [ 39 ]. After incorporating RGO, the undercooling at the interface was significantly enhanced owing to the high thermal conductivity of RGO.…”

“…pct TiB 2 powder particles with the base alloy, and an order of magnitude decrease in the grain size was reported with the TiB 2 additions, from 23 lm to 2.5 lm. Wen et al [127] added 3 wt pct TiB 2 to 2024 in a laser solid forming process and achieved equiaxed microstructure having a grain size range of 20-35 lm with increased mechanical performance of components compared to long columnar grains with width ranging from 60 lm to 1.6 mm in 2024 without the grain refiner. Most recently, LaB 6 has also been shown to be an effective nucleant particle during L-PBF of Al10SiMg, as shown in Figures 5(c) and (d).…”
