Laser sintering of Al2O3‐based green ceramics prepared by different pre‐sintering temperatures

Abstract: Al2O3‐based green ceramics are prepared by isostatic cold pressing technology. The prepared green ceramics are pre‐sintered at the temperature from room temperature to 1100°C, and then Al2O3 ceramics are prepared by laser sintering. The effects of pre‐sintering temperatures and laser parameters on mechanical properties and the sintering quality are analyzed. The results show that good crystallinity of Al2O3 particles is obtained at a higher pre‐sintering temperature. The flexural strength and density of green … Show more

“…The macroscopic properties of ceramics are determined by their microstructure [26]. The hemispherical ceramic shells, which had been sintered at high temperatures, were crushed and processed in order to screen out the ceramic fragments, and those with a neat cross-section were selected; their cross-section was grinded with silicon nitride abrasive paper on an automatic grinder.…”

“…11 So, to overcome the disadvantages of sintered ceramics machining or non-traditional machining, in recent years, green ceramics machining is taken as an alternative method to fabricate ceramics with complex shapes and curved surfaces. 12 Because there exists no metallurgical bonds formed between ceramic particles in green ceramics, 2 the strength of green compacts is lower than TA B L E 1 Properties of WC +6%Co cemented carbide cutting tools.…”
