Abstract. We present mathematical formulae generalizing polarization gating techniques. Polarization gating refers to a collection of imaging methods based on the combination of different controlled polarization channels. In particular, we show how using the measured Mueller matrix of a sample, a widespread number of polarization gating configurations can be evaluated just from analytical expressions based on the Mueller matrix coefficients. We also show the interest of controlling the helicity of the states of polarization used for polarization gating based metrology, as this parameter has an impact in the image contrast of samples. In addition, we highlight as well the interest of combining polarization gating techniques with tools of data analysis related to the Mueller matrix formalism, such as the well-known Mueller matrix decompositions. The method discussed in this work is illustrated with the results of polarimetric measurements done on artificial phantoms and real ex-vivo tissues.

The model of a Mueller matrix description of mechanisms of optical anisotropy typical for polycrystalline films of blood plasma--optical activity, birefringence, as well as linear and circular dichroism--is suggested. On this basis, the algorithms of reconstruction of parameters distribution (polarization plane rotations, phase shifts, coefficients of linear and circular dichroism) of the indicated types of anisotropy were found for different spectrally selective ranges. Within the statistical analysis of such distributions, the objective criteria of differentiation of films of blood plasma taken from healthy women and breast cancer patients were determined. From the point of view of probative medicine, the operational characteristics (sensitivity, specificity and accuracy) of the method of Mueller matrix reconstruction of optical anisotropy parameters were found, and its efficiency in diagnostics of breast cancer was demonstrated.

We aimed developing and experimentally validating methods for 3D scale‐selective polarimetry of multiply scattered fields in diffuse myocardium layers for mechanical myocardial injury prescription histological differential diagnostics. We used the synthesis of diffuse object field polarization‐interference registration and polarization‐inhomogeneous field digital holographic reconstruction and layer‐by‐layer complex amplitudes distributions The method for selection single and diffuse object field multiply scattered components polarization maps is proposed. The conditions for eliminating the distorting influence of a depolarized background high level are found. On the basis of еру object field single scattered component polarization maps a large‐scale selective wavelet analysis the criteria (markers) for mechanical myocardial injury different prescription diagnosis was determinate. Excellent accuracy mechanical injury myocardium necrotic changes with different duration using polarization‐interference wavelet differentiation were achieved.This article is protected by copyright.
