Scalp is comprised of five layers, namely skin, connective tissue, aponeurosis, loose areolar tissue, and periosteum, each having distinct characteristics. 1 The amount of donor strip to be harvested depends on the scalp's mobility. The scalp mobility is a confusing term which intermingles with scalp elasticity or laxity and gliability. 2,3 Scalp elasticity and scalp laxity are not synonym. Scalp elasticity is the ability of scalp to stretch and is independent of gliability (sliding phenomenon). 4 It is related to the amount of stretching on the skin's connective tissue layers (stretching of the elastic and collagen fibers in the dermis). 4 Scalp laxity (or mobility) has two components. The first is scalp gliability (ability to slide), and second part is scalp elasticity or stretchability (ability to elongate). 5 The scalp mobility plays an important role in scalp wound closure. The wound closure may have different wound tensions when closed primarily. 6
