“…gambiae s.l. with an LC 50 of 106.09 ppm, whereas the acetone extracts of H. suaveolens , H. spicigera , and O. canum were less toxic exhibiting higher lethal concentrations (Wangrawa et al 2016). The acetone extracts of P. hysterophorus (LC 50 = 368 ppm, LC 90 = 809.2 ppm), however, were not effective against the larvae of An.…”

“…One of the most effective alternative approaches for sustainable mosquito control is to explore the floral biodiversity in order to develop safe botanical insecticides for sustainable mosquito control (Pavela and Benelli 2016). Developing new plant extracts that are biodegradable in the laboratory and semi-field testing can provide a new weapon to fight malarial vectors (Benelli et al 2018, Maggi and Benelli 2018b, Pavela et al 2019, Wangrawa et al 2021). Plant extracts contain acetogenins, alkaloids, alkalamides, anthraquinones, coumarins, flavonoids, limonoids, polyacetylenes, sesquiterpene lactones, sterols, thiophenes, triterpenoids, and xanthones which are effective against larval mosquitoes (Pavela et al 2019).…”

“…To determine the oviposition deterrent activities (ODA) of essential oil constituents, the test was performed following a modified protocol from Zhang et al [ 32 ] and Wangrawa et al [ 33 ]. Ten gravid female B. dorsalis were introduced in a wooden cage (30 × 30 × 30 cm) with sugar, hydrolyzed yeast, and water ad libitum as food.…”

“…The Kramer and Mulla formula was used to determine the oviposition activity index (OAI). The index ranges from −1 to 1, with −1 indicating the most oviposition-deterrence effect and 1 indicating the lowest oviposition-deterrence effect [ 33 , 34 ]. The oviposition activity index (OAI) was calculated using the following formula: where NT is the number (N) of eggs in treatment and NC is the number of eggs in control.…”
