Zusammenfassung Gegenstand und Ziel: Insektenmehl kann aus verschiedenen Gründen als Komponente von Katzenfuttermitteln eingesetzt werden. Neben veterinärmedizinischen Indikationen, insbesondere bei Futtermittelallergien, spielen mitunter auch ökonomische oder ökologische Überlegungen eine Rolle. Da bislang bei Katzen keine Daten zur Akzeptanz, Verträglichkeit und Nährstoffverdaulichkeit von insektenproteinbasiertem Futter vorliegen, sollten diese Aspekte näher untersucht werden. Material und Methoden: Zehn adulte, gesunde Katzen erhielten über jeweils 6 Wochen zwei Alleinfuttermittel (A, B) auf Basis von Larvenmehl der Schwarzen Soldatenfliege (Hermetia illucens). Im Anschluss an jede Fütterungsperiode wurde der Kot der Katzen gesammelt und analysiert. Beide Futtermittel enthielten Titandioxid als unverdaulichen Marker zur Kalkulation der scheinbaren Nährstoffverdaulichkeiten. Ergebnisse: Die Futterverträglichkeit und -akzeptanz waren grundsätzlich gut. Allerdings zeigte eine Katze nach Aufnahme des Alleinfuttermittels A Erbrechen und verweigerte anschließend das Futter, sodass sie von der Studie ausgeschlossen wurde. Bei Einsatz des Alleinfuttermittels B wurde kein Erbrechen der Tiere beobachtet, jedoch bei drei Katzen keine oder eine nur geringe Futteraufnahme. Diese Katzen wurden ebenfalls von der Studie ausgeschlossen. Die Ermittlung der scheinbaren Nährstoffverdaulichkeiten konnte eine hohe scheinbare Rohfettverdaulichkeit (96,0 ± 1,26 % für Futtermittel A und 92,7 ± 1,53 % für Futtermittel B) aufzeigen. Die scheinbare Verdaulichkeit von Rohprotein (77,0 ± 3,48 % und 73,4 ± 3,73 %) sowie der einzelnen Aminosäuren war hingegen eher mäßig. Schlussfolgerung: Beide Futtermittel auf Basis von Larvenmehl von Hermetia illucens wurden zwar grundsätzlich gut von den meisten Katzen vertragen, jedoch gab es auch tierindividuelle Unterschiede. Aufgrund der eher mäßigen scheinbaren Rohproteinverdaulichkeit sollten entsprechende Katzen alleinfuttermittel stets einen ausreichenden Sicherheitszuschlag enthalten, um Nährstoffdefizite zu vermeiden.
