“…´-This value is consistent with the typical values expected for thermally induced NLO parameters, where the value of the thermally induced nonlinear refractive index in [38] was determined to be about 10 cm W. 6 2 -Furthermore, compared with the nonlinear refractive index measured in other studies on avocado, sesame, olive, and castor oils [8,14,43], our measurement of the VCKO second-order nonlinear refractive index shows higher NLO properties. Using the same approach as described in [37], the error in calculating n th 2, was considered to be the error of N I, together with the error in calculating L , eff which corresponds to the error of the absorption coefficient.…”

“…The linear absorption spectrum of castor oil in the visible and near infrared region is presented in figure 1. Recently, we showed that castor oil is a very good stabilizer for colloidal systems containing gold nanoparticles and that these colloids present a large spatial self-phase modulation effect 14 . …”

“…The reason for the above discussion about simple and textbook topics in nonlinear optics is directly related to the significance of this article, which was instigated by reported studies of SSPM in molecular liquids and nanomaterials in suspension (refs , and refs therein), using either CW or ML optical sources, the latter generally operating with pulse repetition rates of several MHz. SSPM is a well-known nonlinear optical phenomenon that has been thoroughly studied in a variety of materials since the early 1980s, with pioneering studies carried out in liquid crystals, besides several others. In a recent publication, we had the opportunity to clarify the role of thermal and nonthermal nonlinearities in ethanol. In another work, we fully discussed the physical mechanism responsible for SSPM in liquid suspensions of 2D transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) by comparing SSPM results for several different materials, with a clear indication of thermal nonlinearities when CW or ML high repetition-rate lasers are employed.…”
