Large Scale Screening of Southern African Plant Extracts for the Green Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles using Microtitre-Plate Method

Abstract: Abstract:The preparation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) involves a variety of chemical and physical methods. These methods use toxic and environmentally harmful chemicals. Consequently, the synthesis of AuNPs using green chemistry has been under investigation to develop eco-friendly nanoparticles. One approach to achieve this is the use of plant-derived phytochemicals that are capable of reducing gold ions to produce AuNPs. The aim of this study was to implement a facile microtitre-plate method to screen a larg… Show more

“…Preliminary screening of H. foetidum extract for the synthesis of AuNPs [10], showed promising results, subsequently, it was subjected to purification steps to identify the compounds responsible for the reduction and stabilization of AuNPs. Chromatographic manipulation in parallel with NPs assay formation, two compounds were isolated.…”

“…Additionally, gold nanoparticles were mostly mono-dispersed and possessed spherical morphologies with an average particle size of 45 nm ( Table S15 ). On the other hand, numerous studies experienced different shapes, including triangular, pentagonal and hexagonal structures [ 136 , 137 , 138 ]. Furthermore, the clustering and polydispersity of particles were the main obstacles faced by researchers during the biosynthesis of gold nanocrystals [ 139 , 140 ].…”

“…Zeta potential is a vital measurement or parameter used to ascertain long-term stability and analytical assessment of nanoparticles [51]. Zeta potential of the quantum dots was not significantly different from each other and with a mean value of (34.12 ± 0.8), (30.87 ± 1.18) and (33.56 ± 1.3), Particles with zeta potential value of above ±30 are said to be very stable according to the literature [52]. The zeta potential of the QDs was above ±30 with QD-GA12 having the highest zeta value and QD-GA2 having the lowest zeta potential.…”
