Large-Scale Hydraulic Fracturing in a Frontier Area in China

AbstractFour large-scale hydraulic fracturing treatments have been successfully conducted in a tight sand gas reservoir in Sichuan, China ranging from 300,000 to 700,000 lbs of proppant per well. Production of gas has been significantly enhanced. Previous hydraulic fracture operations conducted by both western service companies and Chinese Oil Companies did not meet the expected production rate to develop the field. This paper will focus on how the engineering challenges were identified and the designs implemented.
