“…Smaller and more uniform AuNPs, other than those in Figure 2a and b , were formed on the MPTMS surface (Figure 3a ). This is attributed to stronger Au-SR bonds (165kJ/mol) between Au and MPTMS [ 25 ], further confirming our prediction about the effects of interaction on the growth.…”

“…We further investigated the preparation of AuNPs by self assembly in UHV. In this experiment, we first prepared a 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on a Si(111) substrate, and then vaporized Au by EBE in UHV onto the MPTMS surface [ 25 ]. Figure 3 reveals that AuNPs with diameters of 3 to 8nm (Figure 3b ) and particle density of 1.37 × 10 12 cm −2 were formed and distributed uniformly and densely.…”

“…There are several experimental methods to generate bimetallic NPs, which in general can be divided into two groups: dry and wet. Dry methods 7 refer to the formation of clusters under vacuum conditions inside a source commonly containing a mass-selector. Then, the decrease in temperature inside the chamber leads to condensation of the particles, with the formation of several nanoparticles.…”

“…19 These studies are distinct from those of simple deposition of AuNPs on a surface. [20][21][22] The chemistry of AuNPs immobilization is classied as an electrostatic interaction, 11,[23][24][25][26][27] S-Au bonds, 11,23,[27][28][29][30][31] other covalent bonds, 13,32 or hydrophobic interactions. 19 In many reports, the surfaces of glass and Si substrates are functionalized with various silane coupling agents to create interactions between AuNPs and the functionalized surfaces.…”
