Large-eddy simulation of three-dimensional dunes in a steady, unidirectional flow. Part 1. Turbulence statistics

Abstract: This is the accepted version of the paper. This version of the publication may differ from the final published version. We performed large-eddy simulations of flow over a series of three-dimensional dunes at laboratory scale (Reynolds number based on the average channel depth and streamwise velocity was 18,900) using the Lagrangian dynamic eddy-viscosity subgrid-scale model. The bedform three-dimensionality was imposed by shifting a standard two-dimensional dune shape in the streamwise direction according to a … Show more

“…The Crank-Nicolson scheme is used for the wall-normal di↵usive terms, and the Adams-Bashforth scheme for all the other terms. The pressure is obtained from the solution of a Poisson equation, which is discussed in Omidyeganeh & Piomelli (2013). The code is parallelized using the Message-Passing Interface and the domain-decomposition technique, and has been Radhakrishnan et al 2006Radhakrishnan et al , 2008Omidyeganeh & Piomelli 2011, 2013.…”
