Large device to device communication network including airborne drones for emergency scenarios

Abstract: In the case of emergency scenarios communication infrastructure might be destroyed, impairing communication abilities in the disaster area. In such situation device-to-device (D2D) communication networking plays an essential role to overcome the communication loss. To provide a reliable communication network, D2D devices are combined with airborne drones. The D2D devices provide a relay service while being able to transmit their own data. The airborne drones offer additional relay functionality and provide con… Show more

“…UAVmBSs are used in natural disasters and emergency situations to provide evacuation responses and broadband services. 5 UAVmBSs can support a range of situations for the terrestrial cellular network. Human-made or natural catastrophes like forest fires, floods, cyclones, earthquakes, terrestrial communication infrastructures are seriously affected, become unstable due to loss of interconnection between various networks or the damage of physical networks.…”

“…In addition, the unpredictable change in the positions of devices increases connection failure probability in the link between the transmitter and receiver devices [49], [50]. Due to a connection failure, the data must be resent via another link, hence additional spectrum is required [51]. Furthermore, frequency reuse might cause significant interference such as (inter-cell and intra-cell) if not controlled effectively [52].…”
