Larch Pellets Fabricated with Coffee Waste and the Commercializing Potential of the Pellets

Abstract: This study was conducted to suggest the effective management and recycling processes of coffee waste, which can be easily obtained from coffee shops and coffee-related products industries. Prior to the fabrication of pellets, the

“…Notably, the chlorine content remained stable despite the variations in SCG content. In the same page, Yang et al 39 investigated the impact of SCG content on the heating value of pellets produced while mixing larch sawdust. Their findings mirrored those of other studies, indicating a progressive increase in HHV with higher SCG percentages.…”

“…Coffee consumption in Indonesia is increasing by an average of more than 7% every year, and with the higher coffee consumption, a greater amount of coffee waste is generated from cafes and households (Limantara et al, 2019). However, SCGs contain aromatic and aliphatic compounds and high levels of nitrogen and sulfur (Yang et al, 2018), which cause SCGs to produce a lot of smoke when they are burned (Khusna and Susanto, 2015). Therefore, modifications are necessary to increase the potential of SCGs as a fuel source by mixing it with other materials that are sustainable and have a high calorific value such as using wood, the wood itself is one of the renewable eco-environmental resources (Ahn et al, 2021;Ghani and Lee, 2021;Hadi et al, 2022;Han and Lee, 2021;Jang, 2022;Park et al, 2020aPark et al, , 2020b.…”

“…In the last decade, studies to obtain coffee-ground based products with competitive costs and low environment impact began to appear in the literature. Currently, OFCDs are used in several applications, such as household products [8,9]; heavy metal adsorbents, dyes and pharmaceuticals products in aqueous media [6,[10][11][12]; biofuels in the form of wood logs, chips or pellets [7,13]; additives in the food and cosmetic industries [7,14,15]; and manufacture of smart fabrics [16,17], among others.…”
