“…During the 5-year study period, this composite mesh and hernia repair technique were associated with a low rate of hernia recurrence (1 % with an average follow-up of 29.3 months) and low rate of early and late infection (1 and 0.4 %) [ 25 ]. Additional, small series studies have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of this composite hernia patch using an intraperitoneal onlay technique in the repair of flank abdominal bulge [ 26 ] and inguinal hernias [ 27 ].…”

“…Another prospective laparoscopic surgical evaluation showed that 18 patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery had no recurrences (5). In Japan, however, only one case of laparoscopic Spigelian hernia repair has been reported (7). The authors simultaneously repaired an inguinal hernia and a Spigelian hernia by using a laparoscopic approach with a Kugel patch (Bard).…”

“…Some reports have shown that the laparoscopic approach to Spigelian hernia repair is feasible because it is associated with less morbidity and a shorter hospital stay than open surgery (6). In Japan, however, only one case of laparoscopic repair of a Spigelian hernia has been reported (7).…”

“…It has variable incidence quoted in the literature ranging from 0.1 to 2% [1,2,3]. Named after Adrian van der Spieghel, the 17th century Belgian anatomist who first described the semilunar line, it was not until 1764 that it was first reported as a clinical entity by the Flemish anatomist Josef Klinkosh.…”
